Since I have been in the insurance field for over 30 years, I sometimes forget that many people just don’t understand how an independent insurance agency works. I’ve learned that many people have the wrong perception of what we do!
We don’t charge a fee for going out and shopping for your insurance. We are contracted to represent different insurers. Some insurers prefer to write certain types of insurance. Others prefer to write another type of insurance. So, their rates are geared toward insuring the type of client they are comfortable with.
By representing different insurers with different appetites, we are able to find competitive quotes for most types of clients– whether it’s a retired couple in a condominium, a young couple buying their first home, a family with newly licensed drivers, a three-employee retail store, or a 100-employee manufacturer.
The insurers we represent pay us a commission for accounts we write with them. But that doesn’t mean their rates are more expensive than a company that has a more familiar name.
Our insurers let us be the advertisement for them. Their marketing budgets are way smaller than insurers that advertise on TV with funny ads every day. Those lower marketing costs can translate into lower rates! And they can still offer the excellent coverage that we recommend to our clients.
In addition to insuring homes, autos, and businesses, we insure motorcycles, boats, and RVs. Additionally, we write life, health, and employee benefits coverages. We want to be our clients’ insurance department. You can trust us to worry about how to best protect you.
Since we approach insurance from a risk management perspective, we are also not afraid to tell you when insurance is not the answer you are looking for. There are other ways to manage risk. If you are paying for insurance you don’t need, we are going to let you know.
We deal with insurance jargon every day and the terms we use can be confusing. You can trust that we will translate it into language you can understand.
