The Smart Growth Partnership of Westmoreland County had an awards presentation dinner at the University of Pittsburgh, Greensburg campus. John Cardwell was acknowleded for his tremendous contributions to the Municipality of Murrysville. He is one of the founders of Murrysville Economic & Community Development Corporation and has served as the Executive Director since its existence in August 1999.

In this role he, with Municipality guidance, has helped many businesses find a location and get questions answered, has helped many existing businesses to make wise environmentally sound decisions on renovations, and has helped property owners to get grants to c
lean up unsightly buildings.

John served on the Murrysville council from 1994 – 2003 and continues to serve on several committees. He has shepherded the municipality’s Streetscape project with renovations that are designed to encourage business growth and increase foot traffic in the area.

Several board members of the MECDC as well as Mayor Robert Brooks and Jim Morrison representing the municipality were in attendance to show their support.

The regional president of West Penn Power, David W. McDonald, complemented the Smart Growth Partnership when he said they balance the economy, the environment and the community.
